My name is Tui Hutchinson nee Jones. I am of Maori and Welsh descent. Born and bred in Papakura, Auckland moved to Dargaville at 12 years old and was raised by my Welsh father aka Taffy. I met my husband/neighbour at 16, married in 2009, four tamariki with no mokos of my own but plenty of mokos from my nieces and nephews we love to adore.
I completed my teaching degree with Te Whare Wānanga ō Awanuiarangi in 2015 celebrating a decade in education this year. First relieving in Pouto, then Aranga and then spending 7 years as the Year 2 kaiako at Selwyn Park in Dargaville.
In Term 4, 2023 I started at Te Kopuru School in the bilingual unit as the kaiako of Poutama the Year 4-8 class. This year 2026 I am the kaiako of the newly opened bilingual unit Tupuranga the Year 0-4 class. My teaching pedagogy is kaupapa maori theory I believe Kaupapa Māori theory in education is a transformative, Māori-led approach that normalises Māori language, culture, and knowledge (mātauranga Māori) as valid and central within the classroom.
In my own time I love being with my whanau and friends, around sport, culture, and the great outdoors of Aotearoa.
