Essential Information for Our School Whānau

After School Arrangements:

We understand that plans can change, and it's important that your child's after-school routine is safe and smooth. If there’s any change to your child’s usual routine, please let us know by calling the school at 09 439 1802 or emailing office@tekopuru.school.nz. We appreciate your help in keeping everyone safe.

Buses:

Please note there is a bus from town (Dargaville) to our School, which involves a fee.

Please contact Ritchies Bus Service Dargaville on 09 439 4902 for further information.

The board of trustees subsidises the town bus fare.

Please notify the school of these arrangements.

  • Unless requested by a note or phone call to school by a parent/caregiver, bus children will be sent home on their usual bus.
  • If a student is being collected after school, please make sure the bus duty teacher is notified.
  • If parents wish ineligible bus children to travel on the bus for whatever reason (e.g. Birthday party) a request for permission to the bus company involved (Ritchie’s) must be completed by the parents.
Homework:

Homework is an important part of your child’s learning journey, helping them build good habits and reinforce what they learn in class. Generally, homework is set from Monday to Thursday. We encourage parents to support their children by reading with them daily—this makes a big difference, even if there’s no set homework. If you have any questions or concerns about homework, please feel free to reach out to your child’s classroom teacher.

Homework Centre:

For extra support, we offer a Homework Centre after school from 2:45pm to 4:00pm, Monday through Thursday. This is a great opportunity for students to complete their work in a focused, supportive environment.

Leaving the School Grounds:

‍For safety, students must be accompanied by an adult if leaving school during the day. These procedures are in place to ensure the well-being of all our students.

Lunch Passes:

‍If your child will be going home for lunch, please send a note, and we’ll arrange a lunch pass for them. We’re happy to accommodate these requests and make lunchtime as smooth as possible.

Open Door Policy:

Our school has an open-door policy, and we welcome parents to be part of their child’s education. If you’re visiting during school hours, please call the Office to let us know you’re here.

Road Crossing:

‍The road outside the school can be busy, so our staff and senior students help with crossing patrol before and after school. We also ask that parents set a good example by using the crossing. Thank you for helping to keep everyone safe.

Stationery:

‍To get started with learning right away, students will need to purchase their stationery as soon as possible. You can order online at nzschoolshop.co.nz, or we have a limited supply available for purchase at school.

Sunhats:

‍During Term 1 and Term 2, all students are required to wear sunhats. If a child doesn’t have a sunhat, they’ll be asked to play in the shade. We also recommend sunscreen for added protection.

Swimming:

All children are required to undergo instruction in water safety and water skills. This is viewed as a compulsory part of the PE/Health Curriculum, unless excused by a note from a CAREGIVER or DOCTOR. Students must bring named togs, towels throughout swimming season.

We would like students to wear swimming caps to prevent hair blocking our filter system. The School Pool Water is tested on a regular basis.

Technology:

‍Year 7 and 8 students will have their Technology lessons held at Te Kopuru School as part of their learning experience.
